Roach, Pacquiao to craft new game plan vs Mayweather

Roach confirms they already signed the contract

MANILA, Philippines – Famed American trainer Freddie Roach admitted that he and Manny Pacquiao would have to make some changes in their training when they prepare for the mega fight against Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

“This is completely opposite of the [Miguel] Cotto fight, opposite of the [Ricky] Hatton fight, and opposite from the [Oscar] de la Hoya fight,” Roach told Brad Cooney of 8countnews.com. “We will come up with a new game plan, a 10 week camp, and some changes. We will work on setting traps and taking Floyd's speed away from him.”

Roach added: “It's a difficult fight, it's the most difficult style for us to go against because he is a runner and a counter puncher.”

The two-time Trainer of the Year recipient also disclosed that the fight is official on their end as Team Pacquiao already signed the contract.

“I don't know if they officially signed, but we have,” he said.

Pacquiao and Mayweather are set to face off on March 13 at a venue to be announced. Las Vegas is said to be the frontrunner in the hunt for the venue. The press conference for the fight will be held on January 11 in the United States.

‘Best fighting the best’

Roach went on to share his thoughts on the match that is being touted as the “Fight of the Century.”

“It's the best fighting the best right now. People can say what they want, but he's very good at what he does. He's not an exciting fighter, but he's good at what he does,” he said.

Pacquiao, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion, has a record of 50-3-2, with 38 knockouts.

Mayweather, the current No. 2 pound-for-pound king (who previously held the top pound-for-pound spot), holds a clean 40-0 record with 25 KOs.

“Floyd is not an offensive guy he's a very defensive fighter, but defense doesn't win fights, offense does. We will excel in those areas, and we can match his hand-speed. Mayweather is very clever, it's a challenge for both men,” the trainer continued.

Fight preparations

According to Roach, they will be working hard to prepare for the undefeated American fighter.

“Let's face it, he's never been beat. We are going to come up with a great game-plan, I know my guy can do it. We will get in shape and we will try to make it as exciting as possible.”

He said he plans to train Pacquiao for one month in the Philippines and another month in Los Angeles, California.

He earlier stated that he wants his other ward, World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan, to spar with the Filipino boxing sensation

Another honor

Meanwhile, Roach is slated to receive another honor before he gets back to business with training the pound-for-pound king.

Roach will be feted a commemorative custom-made belt during the World Boxing Council (WBC) Legends of Boxing Christmas Toy Drive, reported Ed de la Vega of PhilBoxing.com.

Roach, who will serve as the event’s guest of honor, will be recognized for his achievements in boxing.

The WBC Legends of Boxing will be held on December 20 at Rudy’s Grill in Los Angeles, California.

I know Roach has made Pacquiao really a living legend, I know Roach's game plan is enough to break the undefeated record of pretty boy Floyd Mayweather,Jr.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather: what's not to like about it?

It's two forces that were eventually going to collide sooner or later.  The negotiations are currently taking place that if successful will match up the two best fighters on the earth. The undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr vs the pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao.  There is bad blood between the camps, and that bad blood crosses over into the world of boxing fans as well.  The Manny Pacquiao fans make no bones about it, they think Mayweather is a coward, a fighter that has selectively cherry picked smaller opponents throughout his career.  They feel as if he's a paper champion, and in some eyes, they don't feel he's even worthy enough to fight Manny Pacquiao.

Floyd Mayweather's fans are a lot less vocal.  Perhaps it's a nervousness? perhaps they are quietly watching and realize that Pacquiao will present their fighter with the most difficult fight he's ever had.  The bad blood also is evident between the two camps as well.  There is no love lost between Mayweather Sr and Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach.  Both men have publicly thrashed one another.  Mayweather Sr basically accuses Pacquiao of taking, "something fishy."  In other words, he is blaming Pacquiao's stunning success on steroids.  There is no basis or merit to these allegations as Pacquiao has passed all drug tests as required by the commissions. Nevertheless, you can't convince Big Floyd of it.  He's sticking by his theory, and makes no bones about it.  Big Floyd gives absolutely no respect whatsoever to boxing legend and trainer Freddie Roach.  Big Floyd has countless times, on the record, insulted Roach, calling him, "No coach joke Roach."  So needless to say, there are plenty side attractions that are involved leading up to this fight.

The two men have taken different paths in their careers.  Mayweather has beaten some big name fighters, but the ongoing wrap on him is that his opponents are smaller and selectively picked.  With that said, he still is undefeated, and has extremely good boxing skills.  His defense is excellent, his timing is excellent, and his ability to counter punch is second to none.  Mayweather will provide Manny Pacquiao with a very difficult task.

Pacquiao on his way to the top has wreaked havoc, and left a path of destruction.  He's conquered Mexican warriors like Morales, Barrera, De La Hoya.  He's wiped out guys like Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, and David Diaz.  His fame has shot through the roof on an international scale.  This is a classic good guy, vs bad guy set up.  Pacquiao is loved by the masses due to his story, and his character.  Mayweather is looked at more like the villain, a guy that people love to hate.  He's brash, he throws his money around, he has a swagger about him that most people don't take too kindly to.

This fight matches up the sports two biggest names.  It matches up the sports two most recognized fighters of today.  This fight matches up Pacquiao's blinding speed and power against Maweather's superb defense, counter punching, and quickness.  The perfect good guy vs bad guy scenario, the perfect storm, with the side show attractions between Roach and Big Floyd.  Pacquiao vs Mayweather, who doesn't want to see this?

I'm so excited to see that the two best fighter on the planet------the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight.

Recently Floyd Mayweather Sr., the father of Floyd Mayweather Jr., went on record stating he believed Manny Pacquiao was taking some king of performance enhancement. For the record I must tell you, Manny Pacquiao has never been caught using steroids or performance enhancing drugs of any sorts. The highly respected Nevada State Athletics Commission which has given Pacquiao numerous drug tests over the years has confirmed that Pacquiao has never tested positive for any type of anabolic steroids, performance enhancing drugs or banned substances. Keith Kizer, head of the NSAC has even gone on record to
state the Commission has never found any of the numerous samples taken from Pacquiao over they years to contain anything illegal such as steroids. Nothing, zilch, nada!

During negotiations for the proposed March 13th HBO Pay-Per-View TV event, Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr., as a stipulation, team Mayweather requested that both fighters be subjected to Olympic Style drug testing. So take it which ever way you want... but it looks like team Mayweather believes Pacquiao is taking some sort of Steroid or performance enhancement.

Considering Pacquiao, who has his popularity running at an all time high, claims of steroid use could be very damaging to his name and solid reputation. Consider this too... since there is no proof and even the NSAC states as much... then these allegations are not only unwarranted, but should not have been made in public. In my opinion allegations of steroids can certainly in this case be construed as defamation of character.

So why doesn't Pacquiao sue Floyd Mayweather Sr.? I mean, after all if someone was spreading what you consider as damaging rumors about you... wouldn't you sue?

In a recent article by the Manila Standard Today, Pacquiao’s lawyer Franklin "Jeng" Gacal, gave what I considered a very good reason (smart) for not suing Mayweather Sr. over steroid allegations.

Gacal told the media publication that while it is possible to file a case against Floyd Mayweather Sr. for the unsubstantiated allegations that Pacquiao has been on some kind of performance enhancing drugs, Pacquiao told him he doesn't want to glorify the statements.

Pacquiao's reasoning for not pushing the statements further by glorifying them, is a smart one.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Pacquiao not suing Mayweather Sr. is really a smart move, there's no really good reason to be intimidated by those dumbed allegations.

Boxing Venue for Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao - You might want to Save your Money!

Here is the latest on the proposed March 13th HBO Pay-Per-View TV event, Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Manny Pacquiao, in regards to a venue. It appears that MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada may have defeated the 1.2 billion dollar state of the art facility, the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas to host the mega event.

Two different media publications, AOL Fanhouse and the Grand Rapids Press, each are reporting that their own "unnamed" source that is close to the negotiations confirmed on Saturday that the MGM Grand has won the rights to host the event.

As of now, there still is no official word to back the claims by both publications, and personally, I hope they are wrong (even though I doubt they are).

If the MGM Grand truly is the hosting site, then fans will once again lose out. High ticket prices and very limited amounts of tickets that true fans will be allowed to purchase... I'll say this, if you were planing on watching this epic event live and the MGM Grand is hosting it.... forget about it! Save your money and time! What the Casinos in Las Vegas eat up for their "high rollers" in boxing tickets, will only leave a crumb or two for the real fans... and those small insignificant crappy seats that fans will be offered will be outrageous in price.

The MGM Grand holds just shy of over 17,000 seats. The seating capacity of the Dallas Cowboys Stadium on the other hand holds over a whopping 110,000! (Folks, do we really need to do the math here?) And every seat in the Cowboys Stadium has a great view of the action, especially with its gigantic center hung high-definition (HDTV 1080p) television screen. Folks, this massive huge screen TV is he largest in the world, popularly known as the "JerryTron" (after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones). The TV is a whopping 160-by-72-foot (49 by 22 m), 11,520-square-foot (1,070 m2).

Honestly, I hope the reports are wrong...but it looks increasingly like the MGM Grand will be the hosting site. In closing, I repeat... Do yourself a favor, if the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is the hosting site... purchase the fight on Pay-Per-View and refrain from being wiped out by the high price of Las Vegas. Save your money.

Whenever the venue, this will be a legendary bout between these two great fighters.

It’s On: Mayweather, Pacquaio Camps Begin Talks

The blog Fighthype.com earlier today also reported that Mayweather has told his promoter, Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Productions, to begin talks with Pacquiao’s camp.

The posturing for a bigger slice of the purse has already started from Mayweather’s rep Schaefer, who made clear to Pugmire that he thinks his client is a bigger draw than Paqiuoa. HBO Sports President and boxing power broker Ross Greenburg also sides with Schaefer.
“How did Pacquiao-Marquez do versus Mayweather-Marquez? How did Pacquiao-Oscar do versus Floyd-Oscar?” Schaefer asked, well aware of the disparity.
Greenburg made it clear: “Floyd’s calling the shots for this fight to happen.”
After last night’s spectacle though against Cotto, not everyone agrees with Schaefer and Greenburg.
Simon Ruvalcaba of FightHype.com writes today that, “With his win over Cotto, Pacquiao has now proven to be not only the more exciting and entertaining fighter, but also the bigger draw.”

No one disputes that Pacquiao is the more exciting fighter, but the hyper-payday that both will receive is predicated on Mayweather’s participation. Negotiations will be long and arduous, which has me thinking the fight will come off next summer at an outdoor venue, like Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, at the earliest.

Is there a possibility that Mayweather is bluffing? Yhat he has no intention of fighting Pacquiao and will use this negotiation as a ruse? Perhaps. At the very least, Mayweather’s unwillingness to fight Pacquiao in the past points to a negotiation that will be unconventional, with plenty of headfakes along the way.

This Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will be the fight of the century.

Early Fight Odds Favor Mayweather

MANILA, Philippines - The betting lines are open for Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Manny Pacquiao even before negotiations for the richest fight in history.

Bob Arum of Top Rank, representing Pacquiao, and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy, who has helped seal Mayweather’s previous fights, are just about to begin talks for the fight the whole world wants to see.

And yet, the betting lines are now open, and it should be the first time concerning a fight that may or may not happen. If it does, it should take place no sooner than June or July next year or even a little later than that.

But at the BetUs Sportsbook, the odds are out, and it’s Mayweather, the flamboyant and undefeated American who came out as the early favorite against the hard-hitting, Filipino pound-for-pound champion.

Mayweather is undefeated in 40 fights, his latest, against a smaller Juan Manuel Marquez, coming after a 21-month retirement. Pacquiao, on the other hand, has fought and beaten everyone over the last four years and eight months.

In the early bettings, Mayweather was tagged as a -165 favorite, meaning to win a hundred bucks you must shell out $165. Pacquiao is at +125, that a bet of $100 wins $125.

Except for his fight with Oscar dela Hoya last December, Pacquiao had been favored against his previous opponents, and that include Marco Antonio Barrera, Marquez, David Diaz, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.

Pacquiao went as high as being -350 against Cotto and settled in at -280 against the Puerto Rican’s -230 on the eve of the fight that ended with a masterful 12-round TKO for the 30-year-old Filipino southpaw.

The Mayweather versus Pacquiao is a fight that could break all existing records in boxing, and one that could generate more than $150 million in pay-per-view sales and give each boxer earnings of as high as $50 million each.

But it may or may not happen, depending on the negotiations, since both sides want a bigger piece of the cake. But as experts say, there’d be so much money on the table for the two camps to call it off.

“The money will be unprecedented so they should figure it out (how to make the deal),” said Emmanuel Steward.

And while the bets are on, Hatton, six months after his devastating second-round loss to Pacquiao, is putting his money on Mayweather even if he admitted that the ex-pound-for-pound king is a bore to watch.

“I think Mayweather would win because he’s just so good defensively and hard to hit. (But) Pacquiao gets better with every fight. I didn’t fancy him against Miguel Cotto earlier this month but he smashed him to bits. I was blown away,” Hatton told the UK press.

“If I had to put money on it I’d tip Mayweather though. He has the style and shuts up shop so you can’t nail him. Mayweather is so good he doesn’t let you get any punches off. If he makes Pacquiao miss he’ll take the sting out of him.

“But I’d rather watch Pacquiao though. Mayweather will go down as one of the all time greats but I wouldn’t get up at four o’clock in the morning to watch him. He bores the s*** out of me. He should have knocked Juan Manuel Marquez out in September but didn’t, it was safety first all the time,” he added.

Pacquiao Will Beat Mayweather

While I always try to be subjective with my write ups, please indulge me to be a fan for just once and say what I really think would be the outcome of the coming bout between pound-for-pound top dog Manny Pacquiao and the former holder that mantle Floyd Mayweather Jr. – Pacquiao will knock out Mayweather in the later rounds.

Before I rant about my views and why Pacquiao will win, allow me to tell you that I am no boxing guru and have never laced boxing gloves professionally. These are pure views from a casual boxing fan.

To start off, Pacquiao is an anomaly, a rare boxing specimen who has been successful in scaling multiple weight categories and has punctuated such campaigns with impressive, totally dominating wins over elite boxers and top contenders.

What makes him a scary prospect for any opponent is that he improves every fight. The fight with Oscar dela Hoya shows he can fight at welterweight without losing his speed; his bout with Ricky Hatton proves he packs power in both hands; and the Miguel Cotto fight only revealed that the Filipino can take powerful blows from a powerful welterweight – and still sing at a concert right after.

Those are frightening facts if I were Mayweather. Of course, he could easily slide into the Juan Manuel Marquez factor. Mayweather totally dominated Marquez while Pacquiao was having hell with the warrior from Mexico.

As I have stated in a previous article, Marquez fought Pacquiao at featherweight and super featherweight divisions. Marquez was still young then and his counterpunching style was pretty much effective against Pacquiao’s offensive-cored mindset. But that was ages ago and Pacquiao has greatly improved since then.

One thing I forgot to mention in that article is that the Mayweather-Marquez matchup showcased two counterpunchers. Marquez, being the smaller man, was forced to undress his counterpunching persona and switched to being an aggressor, which doesn’t really favors him well.

Here’s another thought why Pacquiao will win – volume punching that are coupled with speed and power and are coming from weird angles. I admit that Mayweather has got to be one of the all-time greats when it comes to defense, but he can’t duck and slip all what the Pacman can dish out. He may be able to evade three punches but can he avoid the four that will come right after?

Pacquiao’s iron chin is also a factor here. Logic says that if he can take a punch from Cotto, he will be able to absorb a punch from Mayweather. While many (writer included) feel that Mayweather’s power is underrated because he is more focused in defense rather than trade, Cotto is certainly the harder puncher by comparison.

I also see that Pacquiao will be the busy fighter and that should give him an edge if the bout goes the distance. Expect him to really pressure Mayweather and make the former champion fight every second. Trading is something Pacquiao loves and Mayweather doesn’t.

Mayweather is not invincible and his defense can be penetrated as shown in his fights against Zab Judah, Ricky Hatton, and Demarcus Corley. He can be hurt. Once he gets hurt, Mayweather automatically goes inside his shell. Pacquiao can certainly hurt Mayweather and he can certainly knock him down… or out.

But perhaps my best reason why Pacquiao will win against Mayweather is the genius in Pacquiao’s corner. Freddie Roach’s mind should never be underestimated as he will definitely have a blueprint for the slick Mayweather.

Come March 13, 2010, Mayweather's 0 will go.

Read More about this fearless forecast.

Mayweather is also a tough boxer, although this article is a bit one-sided even though I am also a Filipino. I can say that Pacquiao will win but not a way like his match with Ricky Hatton.

Olympic-Style Drug Test for Pacquiao Versus Mayweather Fight

The latest development in the world of boxing is about a fight between two superstars in the sport – Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Philippine boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao is currently the man of the hour in the field of boxing, having only recently TKO’d another renowned boxer out of his title – Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.

There are a lot of things going on regarding the undoubtedly anticipated fight, the proposed date of which is being set for March 13 of next year. Amid a tug-of-war regarding the venue is a rather hot topic: hints of use of performance-enhancing drugs by Pacquiao from the Mayweather camp. Mayweather’s father, Mayweather Sr., spoke of his suspicions in an interview that has made the YouTube circuit from a couple of months or so ago – although he also took those allegations back.

The demand for a random, Olympic-style drug testing prior to their proposed match next year was made by representatives of Floyd Mayweather Jr. This should certainly be interesting. Pacquiao, with his diminutive stature and humble beginnings, has become a hero of sorts in his home country, and has served as inspiration to a lot of people. He is not devoid of imperfections, but as far as boxing goes – he has done fairly well for himself. But the elder Mayweather simply seems to smell something fishy going on with Pacquiao’s chameleon-like ability to move through seven weight classes.

Pacquiao has never failed a drug test in the past, but the Mayweather camp thinks that is only because the testing isn’t as stringent as it should be.

The Final Score: Manny versus Mayweather. Now, Please!

Manny Pacquiao enters the boxing arena. The crowd erupts. Even in the middle of Las Vegas, he hears the cheers from Filipinos many time zones away. Yet when Pacquiao files his certificate of candidacy, aiming for a congressional seat in Sarangani, he hears neither thunderous applause nor deafening roars. All he gets are curious looks and raised eyebrows. Oh sure the media frenzy never abandons him. Amidst the shower of flashbulbs, however, Pacman has to realize that politics in this country rarely inspires.

Pacquiao has every right to pursue his political ambitions. If his dream is to annex a chair in the Batasan Complex with his numerous title belts, let him chase that dream. It’s unfair to say that Pacquiao shouldn’t run for public office because he’s just an athlete. We sent Freddie Webb and Robert Jaworski to the Senate after all. It’s likewise unfair to prevent Pacquiao from joining the political derby because he can’t quote Hemingway. Eloquence isn’t a basis for integrity, you know.

There is joy, no matter how fleeting, in watching Pacquiao raise a title belt. It’s a sight that unites, albeit artificially and temporarily, a country. In contrast, Pacquiao shows off his accomplished COC and the nation shrugs its shoulders. It has little to do with Krista Ranillo. Perhaps Manny can blame every other corrupt politician roaming our 7,100 islands for the lukewarm response. Filipinos love their heroes in boxing gloves. They abhor thieves and alleged mass murderers in three-piece suits. A successful boxer is an honest fighter. A successful politician is…well. A well-fought bout, a well-played game are described as beautiful. A sporting event, league or personality suddenly turns ugly when politics rears its unwelcome head. Politics and sports mix as well as barong and maong. So when Pacquiao stubbornly insists on joining the election Cirque du Soleil, the dissimilarity between Manny the pugilist and Manny the aspiring public official is as jarring as Manny’s brutal left hook.

Thankfully Bob Arum is in town. Let’s get this Pacquiao-Mayweather super bout finalized and let sports distract us from the fatal flaws of some of our government leaders. Efren Peñaflorida and many others like him are doing what they can to make the Philippines get on its feet. Unfortunately, Peñaflorida can’t pack cinemas, arenas and barangay plazas the way Pacman can. I wish people would set aside one Sunday in a year for Peñaflorida, Tony Meloto et al. the way they do for any Pacquiao bout. But since Filipinos are more excited over heroes who punch opponents than champions who push kariton-classrooms, I’m willing to work from there.

In these extreme times, Pacquiao’s higher purpose isn’t to peddle Manny Pacquiao versus Roy Chiongbian. Pacquiao’s higher purpose is to divert attention from politics at the least, inspire national pride at the most. They say Pacquiao versus Mayweather might happen in March 2010. I say March should come sooner. This country needed Pacquiao versus Cotto after Ondoy-Pepeng. It needs Pacquiao versus Mayweather now more than ever after Maguindanao. – GMANews.TV

I think  Pacquiao has nothing to prove in boxing, but politics is simply a different world compared to the career path that made Manny Pacquiao known around the world.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao

This was a news from linkmoko.blogspot.com

I feel that the upcoming fight of Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao could produce the perfect opportunity for the Pretty Boy to really prove himself. What fight out there would be as big in the boxing world as Mayweather vs. Pacquiao? I know Manuel Marquez might have something to say about that but I would prefer to see him fight Shane Mosley or stay on the lightweight division. What would be better for the sports especially on boxing than a previous pound for pound champion versus the current one? I also believe this would be the perfect temptation for Floyd to challenge Pacquiao. The money would be unbelievable as well as the chance to absolutely cement his legacy against the best fighter (apart from him) in the world. I know if Mayweather were to fight Pacquiao his detractors would say why not Margarito or Williams or probably Mosley? But after Manny Pacquiao had violently turned Miguel Cotto’s face into raw hamburger, the chant rose up from the stands of the MGM Grand Garden Arena:
“We want Floyd” boxing fans are really wanted to see the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight. I also think it would prove beyond any doubt that Pacquiao can handle fighting at the weight. This fight would be a genuine super fight between two all time greats in their prime. The super fight that could set box office records – Mayweather vs. Pacquiao it’s the dream bout between the two best pound-for-pound champions in the sport. I know Margarito is a relentless crowd pleasing favorite I personally like and respect him, but if Floyd fought him and out boxed him for 12 rounds (the only way Floyd could win) then it would be a boring fight. Cotto won't have the appeal he once did coming off a big loss so that wouldn't tempt Floyd. Williams has just moved to light-middle and I think Margarito is his main goal anyway. However, if a fight including Floyd and any one out of the big three in the welterweight division came off I would most like to see Mayweather vs. Williams (after Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight of course) I think Paul would give him the toughest fight out of the three. And if these two fights came off and Floyd was victorious I don't think anyone could deny him his position amongst the very greatest to ever grace the sport. The Mayweather vs. Pacquiao bout is already in negotiations both Top Rank and Golden Boy promotions are now finalizing some agreements, we will found out in the upcoming days if it is really official. I personally would love to see Mayweather vs. Pacquiao just to finish who’s the best pound-for-pound really is. It makes sense on so many levels. So come on Manny and set up the greatest fight of our generation.

This coming Paquiao-Mayweather fight would be as legendary just like the Frazier-Ali bout.

Pacquiao-Mayweather Fight Getting Closer

Manny Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, was flying to the Philippines on Tuesday to discuss the boxer's possible megafight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Arum said he also would discuss Pacquiao's participation in a congressional election in that country.

A source familiar with the process who declined to be identified because he's not authorized to speak about the negotiations said there are strong indications that Mayweather has agreed in principle to some contractual details.

A report by Yahoo Sports on Tuesday night said that a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight was nearly finalized for March 13 and that Mayweather had agreed to terms.

Contacted late Tuesday night, the lead matchmaker for Arum's promotion company, Top Rank, was more cautious about where negotiations stand.

"This trip was planned," matchmaker Bruce Trampler said. "Manny's got to fight in the first half of the year and Bob has to make the match so he was going to discuss that with Manny -- dates, opponents and Manny's thoughts on his political career."

"I'm going over there to figure it out," Arum told The Times just before departing. "Everything."

Arum said Tuesday that an opponent will run against Pacquiao in the May 10 Philippines election, which will force the boxer to campaign extensively in the weeks preceding the election. Arum and several others who are attempting to negotiate a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight would ideally like the bout to occur on May 1.

WOW! This would one the greatest fight since the time of Ali.
